As automotive professionals, we cannot overstate how important oil changes are to the life of your car, truck, or SUV. Regular oil changes extend the life of your vehicle’s engine and that’s a fact. Collins Auto Care is proud to offer this service quickly and efficiently to our customers because we know you have better things to do than sit in the automotive service shop waiting for your vehicle’s oil change.

Oil Is Your Engine’s Lifeblood

Oil is your engine’s lifeblood. It lubricates moving parts to prevent heat-related damaged caused by their friction. Dirty or old motor oil loses its viscosity; it becomes thick and cannot lubricate moving parts effectively. When this happens, the engine parts overheat and wear down. This not only damages the moving part but it also damages your engine, including possibly overheating it all together.

Fresh Motor Oil

New motor oil is at its maximum viscosity, meaning it does an excellent job of lubricating moving engine parts and helping to keep your car, truck, or SUV’s engine clean by removing dirt and sludge. The more protected the engine parts are from the friction the cooler they remain and the less risk of heat-related engine damage. It might seem silly that something as simple as motor oil does this much but it does.

Advantages of Frequent Oil Changes

Aside from keeping your engine clean, cool, and lubricated, fresh motor oil also increases engine efficiency which gives a boost to your gas mileage. Clean motor oil helps keep the engine cooler, which reduces the work needed by the engine’s cooling system. Clean motor oil also extends the life of your vehicle’s engine because the engine itself doesn’t have to work as hard when it’s running efficiently.

Oil Change Duration

Generally, motor oil should be changed every 3,000 miles no matter what. This ensures you always have the freshest motor oil in your engine doing its job as it should be. Unless your automotive manufacturer recommends differently, we believe 3,000 miles is the best mileage milestone for oil changes. If you use synthetic motor oil, that duration can be extended from 5,000 to 7,500 miles in most cases.

Oil Type

Conventional motor oil works just fine in most vehicle engines but there are instances when synthetic is the better choice. Manmade, synthetic motor oil has additives designed to make it last longer in an automobile engine, so if your vehicle has a lot of miles on it or you live in an area with extreme temperatures, synthetic motor oil might be the better choice.

No matter what, get your oil changed regularly to protect your car, truck, or SUV’s engine and extend its lifespan. Swing by Collins Auto Care today for an oil change.
