If the vacuum hoses in your engine start to leak, the engine will fill up with air. This can create problems with the engine’s performance and your fuel economy. We will talk more about this below. The important thing to keep in mind is that we can replace the leaking vacuum hoses in your engine to restore your vehicle’s efficiency. Do not hesitate to contact us if you are having any of the following problems.
Sputtering Performance
When there is too much air in the engine, the combustion chamber has a hard time producing combustion. Consequently, your engine may start to sputter and misfire. This can make it feel as if your automobile has the hiccups. It will also cause problems with your vehicle’s acceleration. You will notice that the engine struggles in its attempt to pick up speed when you press down on the accelerator.
Reduced Gas Mileage
Unfortunately, this is why you will see a reduction in your gas mileage. Even though the engine is performing below its normal operating level it will use more fuel. An inefficient engine increases its fuel consumption to overcompensate for the fact that it is not running as it should be.
Hissing or Suction Noise
Sometimes, you can hear the vacuum leak in the engine. The leaking vacuum hoses will make hissing sounds or squealing noises. They may also make suction noises. These noises often sound just like the hose on your vacuum cleaner. If you hear strange engine noises, head straight to our shop.
Malfunctioning Components
You may find it difficult to steer your automobile because the power steering pump is malfunctioning. A vacuum leak can cause this problem because the steering pump is one of the components that the vacuum pressure powers. Unfortunately, you may also have problems with other engine components.
High or Erratic RPMs
If you are concerned that the engine is leaking vacuum pressure, keep an eye on your tachometer to see what the needle is doing. When the air escapes out of the vacuum hose, it increases the engine’s RPMs. Consequently, the tachometer may register high or erratic RPMs.
Check Engine Warning
Finally, all of the above will create problems in the engine that will anger the system sensors. They will report error codes to the main computer chip because of the vacuum leak. The chip will turn on the check engine light to let you know everything is not okay inside the engine.
We are here to help, so call us today if you suspect you have a leaking vacuum hose under the hood.
